October Roundup

October is always the beginning of busy season for us. There are so many fall/Halloween activities going on in addition to all our regular activities. October was also the month with my morning sickness started to subside to we were able to get out of the house more and do some fun new things!

It was our turn to hose Letter Group in October. We had the letter F and made flies with our finger prints, for fuzzy frogs to catch. We also played a fishing game, follow the leader, and we went out to the garage and found things with flashlights in the dark.

Davey met his hero Mario at the Discovery Center

Sophie's school fall carnival was at the trampoline park this year! They had games set up in all the party rooms for the kids to play. After the games I took the boys home for bed, and Dave stayed with Sophie so she could jump with all her school friends.

Sophie's friend Emery had a birthday party at the local beauty college. All the girls got their hair done and nail painted. Sophie had so much fun becoming a princess!

We ran into friends at the zoo and went with them to Dairy Queen afterward for an ice cream treat!

Charlie found some markers

Sophie and her best friend Emery showed up at soccer practice in matching outfits!

Sophie had her primary program. She didn't have a speaking part, but her class did perform a song in sign language and she did great

We went to our first story time at the Texas Air & Space Museum! We were the only people there and rather than cancel, the volunteer gave us an amazing personal tour. We got to climb through lots of different airplanes and helicopters, and then we finished our day with some Halloween stories.

I have no idea what we were doing this day, but it must have been fun because both boys passed out on the way home

Halloween 2019

We had a SUPER Halloween this year! Davey really wanted to be Batman, so the other kids joined his universe as Wonder Woman and Robin. I don't know how much longer we'll be able to keep doing coordinated costumes, but sure has been fun while we can!

Off to save the day!

Robin - 1 Year old

WARD HALLOWEEN PARTY: Our ward party was the weekend before Halloween. The youth were still in charge this year, but there was no carnival this time, just a dinner and trunk-or-treat so my night wasn't nearly as chaotic as last year. I made costumes for Dave and I so the whole family would match! I went as Catwoman and Dave was the Riddler, and we quickly learned the lesson that if you dress as a bad guy, all the kids attack you.

The kids were pros at gathering candy this year and wanted me to let them go on their own so I just watched from a distance while Dave passed out the candy.

HALLOWEEN NIGHT: the kids were so excited to trick or treat this year! They literally ran without stopping for an hour and we had a hard time keeping up with them. It was cold, but not freezing like last year. We all went out together for the first hour, then I came back with the boys while Dave and Sophie hit up the rest of the neighborhood.

Batman's mask kept slipping off and so we ended up just taking it off

Charlie stayed in the wagon and enjoyed all the candy the big kids brought back to him from the houses. He loves suckers and grabbed all he could get his hands on.

We live at the end of a dark court with no street lamps, so I tried to make our house look somewhat inviting to entice trick or treaters to make the trek down.

Sophie with her haul, all organized by type. I was pleased with the number of Snickers bars she brought back! Her favorites were the jolly ranchers and gummies.

Fall Soccer 2019 - Shooting Stars & Little Kickers

SOPHIE AND THE SHOOTING STARS: This was Sophie's best season of soccer so far! She has become a great defender, but also scores a goal or two each game. It's been fun to see her really get into the game, where she used to just dance around on the periphery, unsure of what to do.

This season was also different because Dave was her coach! Even though he has no soccer experience, he has the time and the patience to work with a team of 6 year old girls and they had a great season - winning or tying every game! They also did well in the tournament at the end of the season. We were traveling for the final game and Dave had to have a sub coach for the champion ship game, but the girls came through and won in overtime!!

Left to Right: Dave, Claire, Harper, Emery, Ali, Grace, Eden and Sophie

DAVEY AND LITTLE KICKERS: This was Davey's first season trying soccer. He has been dying to wear soccer shoes and get a turn on the field ever since Sophie started a few seasons ago. For his age group there were no actual teams or games, but each Saturday he had a guided practice and then a short scrimmage with other boys his age.

His best buddy Jaxon is AMAZING at soccer and outruns everyone on the field. As a result, Davey quickly learned that he could only get the ball if he took the ball down the field the wrong direction to score on the other team's goal or Jaxon would take it. Good thing they don't keep score at this age!

Charlie was a sideline supporter this year. He loves to be outside, so he thought all the games and practices were great. He clapped and cheered whenever someone scored, even if it was the other team. He also didn't try to run onto the field repeatedly, like Davey used to do at this age.

October Snow Day!!

After very warm late summer/early fall, Amarillo was suddenly hit with a real snowstorm toward the end of October! The weather forecast often predicts flurries for our area, but we rarely see actual accumulation, but this time it was the real deal! It snowed most of the day, and through the night. We got about 6 inches from this storm, which is a lot for Texas. It was fun to play in while it lasted and then a few days later it was all gone.

Around lunchtime the snow started sticking to the ground

The boys and I turned on the fire and watched it fall through the afternoon

Picking up Sophie from school - I was glad I had sent her with a real coat that day!

After school we went out to play

Charlie did not love it one bit

Sophie made a cute little snowman

The boys came inside after a short time, but she stayed out on her own for much longer. I wish really wishing we had some friends closer by so she could have played with someone instead of by herself.

Hot chocolate afterward to warm up

The next day was sunny, but still cold, so we got to enjoy our winter wonderland for a bit longer
