February 2022 Roundup

February is often one of our slowest months of the year, which is not a bad thing! The weather lends more towards indoor adventures, soccer is on hiatus, although Sophie did play Upward basketball, all the Christmas aftermath has long since settled, and there are no birthdays or major holidays. That being said, we still got up to plenty. Here are a few highlights:

Sophie played Upward basketball for the 3rd/4th grade Ducks. After having last season cancelled (covid) it was a slow start this year trying to relearn skills, but she did eventually find her rhythm and was able to score a few times in the later games.

Charlie's Letter Group had a field trip to Fish Pros where we were able to see and touch lots of critters. Feeding the turtles and koi was a favorite of both boys!

First trip to Five Below! We discovered they have dime candy so the kids were able to each fill a bag with the $1 bill grandma had sent them for Valentine's day.

The kids had school off for President's Day so we went to Lubbock with friends to play at the Science Spectrum. Charlie was there even though he didn't make it into any pictures!

Also fun close to home at our own Discovery Center. Griffin is destined to be a star at something someday. So much personality in his little body!

We got to host Letter Group for H. We read Old Hat, New Hat and I invited all the kids to come with a fun hat to show off. Other activities included playing hopscotch, making a Hungry Caterpillar craft and eating honeycomb for snack.

Letter Group - Hosting V is for Volcano!

The Letter Group schedule for the year was a little strange because some members were part of a previous group that got started back in the spring, and when we picked it up in fall, it was to continue where they left off, which was already near the end of the alphabet. That meant my first time hosting I got the Letter V. I thought it would be tricky to come up with activities, but it actually turned out to be quite fun! The kids all coming in seemed so young, some having just turned 3, but they were a much calmer group than the kids Davey's age so we got along just fine. 

Making volcanoes with vinegar and baking soda. The trick is to add some water to the vinegar. It extends the reaction and makes it extra bubbly. The kids were amazed!

Charlie Starts Letter Group

Today Charlie had his first day at Letter Group!! Davey did two years of Letter Group with families from our Stake, and now Charlie's turn has come. He hasn't been away from family since before covid so this was a huge step for him. He was so nervous and took several minutes to get out of the car, but had a great, tear-free day once he made it inside. I hope this new adventure will be bring friends, fun and learning for you Charlie!

Maxwell's Pumpkin Farm

Maxwell's Pumpkin Farm has become a tradition for our family. The kids get so excited when fall rolls around and we plan out our visit. This year we went twice - once with Davey's Letter Group, and once as a family. It was really fun to see Charlie get into the fun since he was too little to participate 

last year. 

LETTER GROUP FIELD TRIP: The field trip took place on the most beautiful morning! It was warm and sunny and we didn't even bother bringing coats. We started out with the group for a hay ride to the pumpkin patch, but then everyone broke off into their own little friend groups to play at the different stations. Davey was so thrilled to have his best buddies Jaxon and Nolan there to play with.

Jaxon is not in Letter Group, but we invited him to come along since he's Davey's best friend.

Nolan is in our stake, and a boy Davey met through letter group. They will go to the same preschool next year too.

Charlie was more compliant. He had the best time in the corn pit!

FAMILY FIELD TRIP: We had such a nice night for our family visit as well! We chose the perfect weekend, because just a few days later Amarillo got hit with 6 inches of snow and the pumpkin patch had to close down for awhile while things melted out and dried up. This year we spent most of our time at the corn pit, the jumping pillows and the slide mountain. 

Baths were definitely required after we got home
