The First Two Weeks

We made it through the first two weeks and are honestly doing great! I don't know if it's because Davey is just an easy baby, or if we just know what to do this time around, but so far two kids hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. I know that we are still in the sleepy newborn phase and things could change drastically when he "wakes up", but I'll take it even if it only lasts for a few weeks!

This boy is a great eater and has already gotten back to his birth weight, plus a few ounces. He isn't much of a spitter, but when it does come up, it ALL comes up. Our sheets are always nice and fresh because they're being washed at least once a week. He doesn't seem to have the day/night reversal that Sophie had for the first few months, and sleeps for 3-4 hour stretches at night. He is also starting to learn that diaper changes are a fact of life, but still has very strong feelings when it comes to bath time.

And now a whole ton of pictures:

Just born and already dreaming about fighting bad guys

I love the faces he makes after a feeding

His hair is always extra fluffy after bath and I love it!

The picture I used for his birth announcement. For the card I cropped out the "Seahawks" writing on the blanket, but I am teaching him young to ensure he supports the right team.

First outing in the double stroller - it's a beast! We got it for $40 on KSL (retail is $220) and so far it's been working great. Sophie is excited to use the "sit and stand" seat once Davey graduates from riding in the infant seat.

He has a love/hate relationship with the binky. He acts like we are trying to poison him when we stick it in his mouth, but once he settles in it brings him a lot of comfort.

Sophie has had some jealously and claimed the bassinet as her special place one night

We skipped newborn size clothing completely and he fills out the 3 month size just fine. It was a little sad to take all the tiny little clothes out of his drawer without him ever wearing them :( He is also already in size 1 diapers.

Sophie has been great at fetching binkies and diapers, but otherwise hasn't shown too much interest. Yesterday she did climb up on the bed to lie next to him, so maybe the ice is starting to break just a little.

Today he had his two week check up. He measured 21.5 inches (93%), 9 pounds 6 ounces (86%) and his head was 36 cm (69%). He's a big boy! Because he's eating well and gaining weight, he has the all clear to sleep as long as he wants between feedings. Here's to hoping those long naps happen at night!

Sophie Gets a Balloon

On Saturday I went to the store for our weekly grocery trip. At the checkout, the cashier asked if I wanted to donate $1.00 to some organization or cause (I can't remember what it was). I normally politely decline in these situations, but this time if you donated you got a free balloon so I said yes. I let Sophie hold the balloon in the car on the way home, but it wasn't until we went inside that she got really excited. I'd say it was a dollar well spent!

Sophie was in a dancin' mood tonight!

Dave and I were watching last week's episode of the voice On Demand tonight after dinner. Sophie was loving the music and suddenly started busting out some moves. My camera was upstairs at the time so I wasn't able to record any of it, but later when Pharrell came on for a guest performance she decided to entertain us with a second performance of her own. Unfortunately I think she got my sense of rhythm. Ha - I love this girl!

More Purple

Sophie's world pretty much revolves around four things these days: daddy, food, outside, and Purple. Daddy is a given - he is pretty awesome and my world revolves around him too :) Outside is also understandable - the weather has been amazing these past few days and we've been going on lots of walks (2-3 a day) and having fun at various playgrounds. And who doesn't love food? Especially goldfish crackers- they are sooo delicious.

I'm still trying to figure out why her Purple attachment is so strong though.  She carries Purple wrapped around her body, over her shoulder, or out in front of her with both hands like a matador. Purple is the first thing she grabs when she wakes up, and what she wants to cuddle if she's sad or tired. Sometimes she will see Purple on the ground and just fall down on top of it and snuggle it for awhile. She LOVES that blanket. And it's getting harder and harder to sneak Purple away to get cleaned every now and then. The other day I threw Purple in the washer while she was eating snack, but 10 minutes later I found her in the laundry room in distress:

The time Purple took a bath

A couple months ago Sophie suddenly became very attached to one of her baby blankets. We very creatively named the blanket "Purple," and have loved watching how excited she gets when she sees it. For the most part she's fine if Purple stays in her bed during the day, but if she ever sees it and can't have it, then she gets really upset. Which is what happened this weekend.

I was taking Sophie upstairs for her bath, and on the way to the tub I decided to transfer the laundry from the washer to the dryer. Sophie saw Purple, and grabbed it out of the dryer and took it to her room. I let her play with damp Purple for a few minutes, but then took it back and started the dryer.

This made her really sad and she just stood by the dryer door crying. Thinking the bath would distract her, I started the water and put her the tub. It didn't fix anything. She went from sad to hysterical. She was crying so hard she couldn't breathe, and was frantically trying to climb out of the tub. So against my better nature, I did the only thing I could think of to calm her down and got Purple back out of the dryer and put it in the tub:

Some Videos

I am always thinking, "I need to get a video of Sophie doing ________" and sometimes (not often enough though) I actually do film something. Tonight I went back through everything I've saved up over the last couple months and picked out some of my favorites to share. Enjoy!
