Charlie's First Haircut

Just a few days before his birthday, I decided that Charlie was starting to look a little scruffy so I sat him down for a haircut. His hair is still baby-fine and wispy, but he had lots of long pieces hanging over his ears and down his forehead, and the back of his head would get all fuzzy where he would rub it during nap. I put him in the bumbo and gave him a few things to hold and then shaved up the sides with the buzzer really quick, and also took a little off the top to even things out. He was really good and looks so grown up now!

Before

After - what a handsome little guy!

Haircuts for the Boys

Dave's last professional haircut was the day before we were married, almost 12 years ago. I have been doing it ever since, and have learned to cut the kid's hair as well. I'm not a super amazing stylist, but I do a good enough job and it sure has saved us a lot of money over the years! This week Dave and Davey were ready for trims. They both have hair that is very thick and grows straight forward. It can't be parted or styled very well, so it looks best when kept short, which is perfect for summer. Now the only one who needs a trim is me!

The boys with their new cuts

Sophie didn't need a trim, but wanted me to take her picture anyway. Her hair was a little wavy for church since it was in braids the day before. I thought she looked very cute!

The baby also got his first haircut! I wasn't planning on giving Charlie one yet, but while I was setting up the clippers for Davey's trim, I decided it was time to clean him up a bit. Charlie's neck was looking pretty scraggly, and he's been working hard on developing a bald spot, so I thought he would look better if things were evened out a bit. It's always so hard to cut off that soft baby fuzz, but I was happy with the results.

Before and After

Here is a sample of what I shaved off - some of those pieces were pretty long!

And here is a picture of his front side, because it's much cuter than the back of his head

The Hair Shave

I first trimmed Davey's hair back when he was about 3 months old to try and even things out and let his bald patches catch up. Several months later his hair had really filled in, and and he was starting to look a little scruffy, especially on the back of his neck. Time for a haircut!

I got out the clippers, and chose a short guard for the back and a longer guard for the top. Sadly, they were both blue and I accidentally grabbed the short guard first. When I saw how much hair was coming off I knew I had messed up, but there was no going back so I just shaved his whole head. Now he looks like a little army man, but at least it should grow back quickly and next time I will be more careful!!

The before and after

The clippings - instead of just trimming the top a bit, I ended up cutting off 1 to 2 inches. Oops!

A Little on the Short Side

Last night Dave gave me a haircut. He's been my stylist for the past couple years and things generally work out ok, but this last cut was quite a bit shorter than I wanted. Dave blames it on bad scissors; I blame it on his misconception of how big an inch is. Whatever the reason, my hair is now about 4 inches shorter than it was the day before - oops.

There were also some issues with evenness that we didn't discover until about 10 minutes before Stake Conference. Everything looks good now, but I wasn't too sad that we had to sit in the back in the dark :)

Since I'm trying not to dwell on all the reasons I don't like my hair short, I've come up with a few good things about this new cut: it will take less shampoo to wash my hair, it will dry more quickly & be easier to straighten. All that means we will save money on shampoo and I can sleep in a bit in the morning!
