Sammamish Summer - Berries for Jam!

It has become a tradition in our family to go pick raspberries every July. This year we went to Harvold's and picked about 15 pounds of amazingly delicious berries. Mmmmm. My mouth is watering just thinking about them now. We set aside the best berries for eating, and the rest were turned into jam.

My sister Amy and I made 8 batches of freezer jam, which unfortunately didn't work out :( All the seeds rose to the top and it was super runny. I'd never seen something like this happen, but I think we must not have boiled it hot enough or long enough. Later I rebatched all 30 containers, which took a long time but ended in a perfect set.

After showing Sophie how to pick the berries on the bush (and not off the ground), she started gobbling them down. After leaving the farm she was all raspberried out and refused to eat them for the next three days.

We also went out blackberry picking. They grow wild all around my house, and while they are a pain (literally) to pick, they sure are delicious!!

Yummy jam to enjoy for a year!
