First Haircut

Sophie got her first haircut just over a week ago. I wasn't planning on cutting it (which is why there is no before picture), but one morning while I was combing out some nasty snarls I told Dave, "bring me the scissors." She was watching a show and I just grabbed the bottom and cut right across.

It actually went better than expected and I only had to touch up a couple areas the next time she took a bath. It's a secret though.... she has been adamant that I not cut her hair so I haven't told her what I did. If you happen to see her, don't mention anything :)

Sad to see her baby curls go, but her hair has been so much easier to manage

Even though I took off a couple inches, her hair is still longer than mine

And one from the front because when we got home from church she asked me to go take her picture in the backyard. Then she asked for a chocolate. She knows the routine :)

Valentine's Day 2016

Sophie has been really into holidays lately, so we decided to let her pick out some cards at the store a few weeks ago. It took us a good 30 minutes to choose a box of valentines because she LOVED everything on display - the cards, the trinkets, the candy, the balloons, etc... It was like dreamland for her. At first she picked out some Minion cards, but then she couldn't handle the thought that they were to give away to friends and not keep for herself. Instead, we got one special Minion valentine for her, and a box of Minnie Mouse cards to share with others. She helped me put them together and then we delivered them to all her little friends and some family members.

On Friday my school had Valentine's Day parties, which is always half crazy and half fun. I pretty much ate cupcakes, cookies, donuts, and chocolate for lunch because a treat was showing up at my desk every 20 minutes. Baby brother did seem to enjoy all the sugar! On Saturday we met my grandma for lunch in Salt Lake. Derek and Faye were also able to come, which was fun. Sophie had picked out some colorful flowers to give grandma Mimi to thank her for all she does for us. On Sunday we had church and only two kids showed up to the nursery. We had planned a hand print craft, which Sophie loved, so we let her make 5 cards since there were lots of leftovers. After church Dave made a yummy steak dinner. And then the best part was Monday was a holiday so we didn't have to go to work - hooray!

We took a Valentine's Day picture after church and sent it out to her four great-grandmas

34 Weeks

I've been meaning to do an update for almost a month now and am finally getting around to it. Baby boy turned 34 weeks on Friday, which means just a little over a month to go! Everything has been going smoothly since the last update (other than having to take the glucose test twice) and we are getting excited to meet this little boy. At my appointment a week ago he was measuring right on schedule - about 5 pounds, around the size of a cantaloupe. By the next visit I am supposed to decide if/when I would like to be induced. I prefer to let things happen naturally, but Sophie was late and a little on the large side so I'm leaning towards scheduling an induction around 40 weeks just so he doesn't get too big.

I feel like we are mostly ready for his arrival. Since this is our second, we already have the basic necessities (car seat, bottles, changing table, etc...) and I bought a double stroller on KSL, have a drawer full of tiny clothes, and have started stockpiling diapers. The big thing on our to do list (other than arrange for leave at work) is to rearrange Sophie's little room to fit another bed. She is still in her crib, but more than ready to transition out and we're thinking of skipping the toddler bed and going straight to a twin so guests have somewhere to sleep when they come. It's going to be cozy!

Dave told me I look huge in this picture...

I have been feeling good lately, but am definitely slowing down. I can't complain though... I still haven't had to deal with many of the common pregnancy ailments like heartburn, contractions, or back pain - just restless nights and low energy. With Sophie I spent most of my final weeks at work and then relaxing on the couch. Now I am still working, but also building legos, playing hide-and-seek, going to the aquarium/museum/library/swimming, giving baths, and picking up the floor several times a day and it's exhausting. I guess it's all just preparing me to be a mother of two!

Park City Getaway

My uncle Brent came up from San Diego this week for a ski trip at Park City. He had a two bedroom condo at the resort and so he invited us to come up for a night to stay with him. We drove up on Sunday after church, had dinner, went swimming, and then played some games after Sophie went to bed.

On Monday Brent went snowboarding (Dave couldn't go because he didn't have a board at the moment) and we hung out at the resort. It was really nice to get away and Sophie loved the hotel! She cried for 20 minutes when it was time for us to leave, so we told her we would come back on Friday to see Brent again.

I brought her a few toys to play with in the room, and of course one was her Paw Patrol friends. They are definetly a favorite right now!

Playing puzzles by the fire with mommy

There was one hot tub for kids 5 years and younger that is not as hot as the others. It was perfect for Sophie and for me, since I can't go in the hot ones right now with baby brother. We went swimming on Sunday night and Monday during the day.

Sophie got to have a nap in the king bed during the afternoon while Dave and I did some work.

When we got home on Monday night Dave was able to pick up his new board! His old board that he got while we were dating broke a few months ago and the replacement came in on Monday - perfect timing! He transferred the bindings to the new board and then we threw poor Burton in the dumpster

Sophie thought daddy's "skate board" was really cool so we got out my skis for her to stand on. We hope to get her up on the mountain next year!

Great day at Park City on Tuesday with Brent. Dave said the new board rode great and he was very happy with it!

On Friday night we went back up to have dinner with Brent and this time my brother Derek also came with Faye. After dinner we had one more hot tub session and Sophie loved swimming with Brent. We then put her down and played some games until it was time to go home.
