Sammamish Summer - One Last Post

We are now back home in Utah. It was a great trip, but it's good to be home. After looking through all our pictures, here are a few that never made it into one of the other posts that I wanted to share:

We ate at Sahalee a couple times and after dinner we would go outside to practice putting. Sophie hit the ball a few times with a club, but mostly loved stealing other people's golf balls and the hole flags.

She so badly wanted to run out on the driving range. I kept telling her, "Sophie, don't even think about it," and of course she ignored me and I had to go chase her down.

Playing with Jobe - she really loved having a doggie to follow around for three weeks

Just relaxing by the lake

My mom, Derek, Natalie, and Brodie ran Ragnar while we were there. After the race Sophie found the head lamp and wrist bands and insisted that we put them on her.

Chillin' in the bean bag the night before we left to come home

Sophie was amazingly good on the way home. She never cried and took some great naps. And even though it was hot, she spent the trip nestled in Pink and Purple.

Video: My mom got Sophie a doll and stroller at a garage sale. She loves the stroller, but poor baby never manages to stay in for more than a minute with the way she drives.

Sammamish Summer - Berries for Jam!

It has become a tradition in our family to go pick raspberries every July. This year we went to Harvold's and picked about 15 pounds of amazingly delicious berries. Mmmmm. My mouth is watering just thinking about them now. We set aside the best berries for eating, and the rest were turned into jam.

My sister Amy and I made 8 batches of freezer jam, which unfortunately didn't work out :( All the seeds rose to the top and it was super runny. I'd never seen something like this happen, but I think we must not have boiled it hot enough or long enough. Later I rebatched all 30 containers, which took a long time but ended in a perfect set.

After showing Sophie how to pick the berries on the bush (and not off the ground), she started gobbling them down. After leaving the farm she was all raspberried out and refused to eat them for the next three days.

Master picker Dave

We were joined by Grandmari and my sister and her kids

With our basket - Dave and I contributed 5 pounds towards the family total

We also went out blackberry picking. They grow wild all around my house, and while they are a pain (literally) to pick, they sure are delicious!!

Yummy jam to enjoy for a year!

Sammamish Summer - The Lake

One of my favorite parts of summers in Washington is spending time at Lake Sammamish. My dad has spent a lot of time cleaning up the little beach property and we went down there almost every other day to boat, swim, and just take a break from the heat. This year was especially fun because Sophie loves water and she got to experience so many new things.

Just hanging out on the beach

Swimming with daddy

Cooking a marshmallow with mommy

Riding the wave runner with daddy - this was probably her favorite thing to do

Kayaking with mommy

Throwing rocks in the water with daddy

Tubing with mommy

Digging with cousin Will

Dave and I also went out on the boat several times to wake board and water ski. I never push myself too hard (I'm a pro at skiing without getting my hair wet), but I felt I was taking more aggressive turns than last year. Dave also made a lot of progress on learning to jump on the wake board. He had a few spectacular falls, but also some great jumps!

Sammamish Summer - Woodland Park Zoo

Plum Creek (my dad's work) sponsored a family day at the zoo to celebrate 25 years as a company. We went with my dad and my sister and her kids. As part of the event we got free admission to the zoo, a catered lunch, tickets to the carousel and bird feeding, and some other goodies - so fun! I also worked at Plum Creek for two years while Dave and I were living in Seattle, so it was fun to see some people I knew from the office.

It was an overcast day, which was perfect weather for the zoo! All the animals were out and active, especially the bigger animals like the cats and bears.

I spy....

... a lion!

Riding the carousel

Feeding the birds at Willawong Station - you only had to hold your seed stick out for a few seconds before a bird would fly down and land on your hand

Our family caricature - not the best likeness, but still fun to have!

All tuckered out - Sophie missed her morning nap and literally fell asleep the minute we got in the car

Sammamish Summer - Kelsey Creek Farm

In Sammamish, you can use your library card to get free passes to the Children's Museum, but you have to make a reservation because they only allow so many free passes each day. Unfortunately I messed up when making our reservations, so we were in need of a back-up activity for the kids. After some research, we decided on Kelsey Creek Farm in Bellevue.

It was perfect for our kids! There were lots of fun things to see and do, and it's FREE! We brought a picnic lunch and then walked over to the barnyard to see some animals. The farm had horses, cows, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, and bunnies. After looking at the animals, we took the kids to the little playground to burn off some energy before heading home. Fun day!

Looking at the chickens - these were probably her favorite

She loved these bouncy animals on the playground

Sammamish Summer - The Cabin

While visiting Sammamish, we took a trip up to the cabin for a "vacation within a vacation." It's a always fun to get away and enjoy the mountains for a few days. My sister Amy, her kids, and my parents joined us for the trip. We went on a picnic, a short hike, made s'mores, and took our thrift store canoe out for a paddle on the lake. Next time we visit the cabin will be for Christmas, and we might try taking Sophie skiing in the street if there is snow.

We didn't take any pictures on our picnic, but after we got back the kids were so hot we sent them out on the deck with some water to splash around in - fun, fun!

Making S'mores!

We took a short hike to the top of the ski hill with my dad to see where they will be building a new chair lift. My dad boosted me up onto one of the chairs (it was about 5 feet off the ground) and then Dave and Sophie climbed up to join me for a picture.

Sophie with Paco

Taking the Canoe out on Lake Keechelus - we enjoyed a leisurely ride in the middle while Dave and my dad paddled us around a little island

The water level was high so the last part of the road was under water. It made for perfect wading since it had a very gradual slope and the ground was level and firm. Sophie did fall off the edge into slightly deeper water once, but was able to keep her head above water until I got there to pull her up - go baby!

Sammamish Summer - 2014

We have been up in Sammamish for the last two weeks spending time at my parents house. It has been unusually warm here (although still cooler than Utah!), so we have spent lots of time swimming at the house and down at the lake. We also went up to the cabin for a couple nights, and have taken trips to the pet store, a couple parks, the zoo, and Sahalee.

My sister Amy has also been here with her 3 kids, so Sophie has had lots and lots of cousin time! Sophie is not quite big enough to keep up with Anne yet, but I'm sure they will be good friends in a few years. Anne has been planning different activities she can do with Sophie when she is older, while her brother, Will, is napping (I don't think she quite understood that Sophie getting older also meant Will would be older too).

The Gang (minus Levi) - Anne, Will, Jobe, and Sophie

Cousin bath time was always fun - lots of dark brown eyes!

Enjoying the quarter rides at Crossroads mall - they are fun and so cheap! For 75 cents Sophie rode the rocket, the one-kid ferris wheel (you can see it in the background), a car, a boat, and a carousel. She LOVED every one and was always sad when it was time to get off.

We met up with my friend Heather and her 4 kids at Ebright one morning. It was a super fun park with swings, a little & big kid playground, and lots of shade.

My parents set up a kiddie pool on the deck and Sophie went swimming out here for almost an hour every day.

One morning she went out on the deck and sent Purple down the slide. We rushed out when we heard her crying and found her like this, horrified that Purple can't swim

Enjoying lunch at the little picnic table we bought at the thrift store earlier in the week

Sophie finally decided to try macaroni on this trip and decided that it was delicious!

Although it is not as good when the noodles haven't been cooked yet...

Enjoying a free slurpee on 7/11 with Grandmari!

Beautiful sunset over the lake - I love Sammamish!
